The easiest way to achieve this color play is with highlights or ombré color techniques. Not to talk of the trendy balayage coloring style, combine the two colors seamlessly. Red hair color often fades into a lighter, orange or brassy hue over time. Achieving a vibrant red often requires multiple dye applications, and even then, it’s susceptible to fading. To maintain its vibrancy, it’s crucial to use hair care products specifically formulated for color-treated hair.
HAIR COLOR IDEA #9: CHOCOLATE
Undoubtedly, being different has its perks, but some may view this uniqueness negatively. Albinism is a genetic condition characterized by a reduction in melanin (skin pigment). Someone who has Albinism usually has lighter skin, hair, and eyes. Nicole Romero at One to One Salon in Orange County added some sparkly gems to this mulled wine-inspired hue. Hairstylist Frances Brittnie Garcia, who goes by both Frances and Brittnie, used Overtone and Pravana for this incredible red velvet melt. Braids are always a good idea—but Keke Palmer proved that burgundy braids are even better.
Fiery Bob
With a color that pops as much as this, a simple middle part is a perfect choice. This is a lovely shade and a wonderful warm tone to use. When requesting for this color of red, just make sure you are receiving the exact one you requested. Now red braid is beautiful, but how about an extra touch of design? You can add stitch braids or craft a love design on your braids for the extra touch. Style your lace front to highlight the roots of your red-magenta bob style.
Burgundy Red Face Frame Panels
Recreate a similar look to this or use a darker or brighter red. The hair is black at the root with red added gradually throughout the hair. It is a trendy hairstyle that is perfect for the ladies who would like a dramatic hair transformation.
You can spice things up with flaming hot ends if you already have dark hair. The red ombre will add the missing element to your jet-black hair and give you a complete look. You can still feel like a redhead with some ginger color inserts, and you can add lowlights or streaks to your black hair.
Black and Red Balayage
This gorgeous blend of a super dark base and hand-painted rose gold pieces makes the style pop with contrast and depth. This red-black hair is an easy style to recreate and maintain. You never know, you might find that this combination of hair colors suits your skin tone more than you ever imagined. I would suggest lowlights or a balayage to someone with long hair instead of short hair. I also considered some funkier hairstyles, such as dreadlocks and mohawks. This hair is a stunning scarlet shade with dark root color. It is a very glam hair idea and will look amazing on any hair length and with any style.
“However, this isn’t for women with naturally light regrowth; as they grow out, it would be harsher. Use heat protection from those heated tools to protect the color,” Oksana advises. Amp up the usual red-to-black ombre hair with this red and black split dye instead to achieve an edgy-looking style!
Now this is a good alternative to blonde hair that people with dark skin who enjoy trying new things can attempt. For this color, a silk press or knotless braid will be deemed beautiful. You can equally embrace your natural hair texture while dyeing it red. Red hot natural hair simply combines the beauty of your natural curls with the vibrancy of a red color, giving you a head-turning style. This thick bangs hairstyle is dyed in amazing shades of red, blue, and purple for a dramatic and unique self-expression.
A black and bright red ombre works great with naturally dark hair. You will likely need to bleach out the ends or find a great red high lift meant for dark hair to get those ends bright red. You can use a red-enhancing conditioner or shampoo to keep the vibrancy of the red. You must do root touch-ups if you’re naturally lighter or have grey hair.

To help your own red hair stand out, consider rocking a gold eyeshadow. Another way to show off your naturally curly hair is by combining red with dark brown. On a short hairstyle, the look is casual yet feminine with a rose hair clip. This is a gorgeous hair idea for clients who crave vibrant tones that boast eye-catching depth. The red is a Color Touch masterpiece, which was applied to an already-dark base for cascading ribbons.
This look is ideal for those wanting to add a pop of color without overwhelming their natural hair hue. The red highlight idea I suggest depends on your current or preferred hairstyle. The short and spikey red highlights are my favorite because this look is so unique. Even on short hair, the bright red color pops against the black hair. Another great idea to rock with short hair is the pixie cut, showing a mix of red and black colors. It is a cute hairstyle that features different shirt details of short hair, even some waves.
My best advice is to start this with a double process, lifting mids and ends with foilayage. And when nearly ready, apply a demi-permanent root color rinse and blow dry. Following this step, mix a custom red tone and allow to process for best longevity and tonality.

Some may not like the idea of going white instead of grey, but we can’t deny that it’s fascinating. In our technology-driven society, first impressions mean everything—and a bad first impression is a lasting impression. If your website is difficult to navigate, users may seek an engaging and more user-friendly alternative, meaning you’ll lose out on valuable leads and revenue. Even the shape of a button can determine whether or not users understand what they’re supposed to do while on your website, so it’s not something to be taken lightly.

Functional UI - a Model-Based Approach - InfoQ.com
In this guide, we’ll walk through each step of the UI design process, including tips, tools, and best practices to get you started with UI design. Users might not know quite what to expect from your digital product—especially if you're launching a brand new technology or concept. A design system can make your UI easier to follow with consistent design cues. With recognizable signposts and predictable controls, users can quickly navigate your UI and take charge of their experience—instead of getting lost or frustrated. Analyzing this data informs design choices, ensuring the interface meets user needs. UI designers often work with user experience (UX) designers, developers, and product managers.
Skeuomorphism in User Interface Design, What is It? - Designmodo
Skeuomorphism in User Interface Design, What is It?.
We'll lift the curtain on the world of UI design and explore what a user interface designer is. Behind every memorable digital experience — a seamlessly navigable website or an app that feels like second nature — are user interface (UI) designers. These professionals shape the aesthetics and functionality of any digital interface. While not always required to get a job, earning a degree is one way to start building your skillset. Some universities offer degree programmes in human-computer interaction, human-centred computing, or human-centred design.
What Is a User Interface (UI) Designer?
The window displays information on how to create rollovers in the context of web graphics. Whenever there is an error, Photoshop provides dialogue that lets the user know what went wrong and how to fix it. The Photoshop toolbar is minimalist and avoids clutter by representing the tools with icons only. Photoshop gives frequent users the ability to save their preferred workspace-setup. One of the many reasons for frequent users to love Photoshop is for its flexibility and efficiency.
Mobile UI Design
With a good User Interface design you can easily get higher engagement, retention, ranking, and organic growth in no time. Primary methods used in the interface design include prototyping and simulation. If one was very lucky, it might be hours; there was no real-time response.
pro tips for excellent UI design
The "attributes of presented information" represent the static aspects of the interface and can be generally regarded as the "look" of the interface. The attributes are detailed in the recommendations given in the standard. Each of the recommendations supports one or more of the seven attributes. The concept of usability is defined of the ISO 9241 standard by effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction of the user.
Future Prospects of UI Design
Before modern UI design, interacting with computers required fluency with program or machine languages. Users navigated disorganized control panels, covered with buttons and commands that only made sense to computer scientists. Once the broader public adopted personal computers, UI designers realized modern technology needed new organizational methodologies that anyone could grasp. As a result, designers tend to specialize in certain types of projects and have skills centered on their expertise, whether it is software design, user research, web design, or industrial design. These patterns make it where the designer needs can create an app much quicker by following the brand guidelines for colour schemes, fonts, icons, and writing tones to adjust the message.
What Tasks Will You Perform as a Product Designer?
When you incorporate these strategies, you create a UX design that is usable for people with various disabilities, thereby enhancing the overall user experience. For example, Spotify's UX design process features the use of personalized content recommendations ("Recommended" in the center of this screenshot). A well-designed, user-friendly interface increases user engagement and satisfaction.
There are various types of UI designs, each with its unique characteristics and applications. If people must make a decision, give them sufficient information in order to make that decision, then go into more details on a subsequent screen. Defer decisions to subsequent screens wherever possible by gradually revealing information as needed. Humans are most at ease when they have control of themselves and their surroundings. Unthoughtful software robs people of their comfort by dragging them into unexpected encounters, unexpected outcomes, and confusing pathways. Maintain user control by surfacing system status regularly, explaining causation (what will happen if you do this), and providing insight into what to expect at each turn.
Many of these early computers used punched cards, prepared using keypunch machines, as the primary method of input for computer programs and data. While punched cards have been essentially obsolete in computing since 2012, some voting machines still use a punched card system. Throughout the course, we’ll supply you with lots of templates and step-by-step guides so you can start applying what you learn in your everyday practice.
Continuous improvement based on this feedback can lead to lasting success. First, measure user satisfaction through surveys and feedback tools immediately after they interact with the product. Ask specific questions about the ease of use, aesthetic appeal and overall satisfaction with the product. Daily or weekly meetings via video conferencing platforms like Zoom can help team members discuss their progress, brainstorm ideas and address challenges. These regular interactions build a sense of team unity and keep everyone aligned with the project goals. By following these stages, UX designers ensure that they create user-centered designs that are both functional and engaging.
As a role model, your actions will have a broader impact, making it more essential to communicate your intentions to maintain harmony and understanding with those around you. The middle life of a 6/2 Manifestor, starting around your late twenties to early thirties and lasting until your Chiron return, is characterized by a retreat from the world. During this phase, you may find yourself withdrawing and seeking solitude more often, giving yourself the time and space to reflect on your early life experiences and integrate the lessons learned.
Guide to the 6/2 Human Design Profile – Role Model Hermit
They won’t ever really kick someone out of their life, but they’ll hold that person at a distance. The 6/2 is a transpersonal profile it needs others to fulfill its destiny. When the 6/2 role model hermit profile in human design doesn’t trust or when they feel withdrawn, they’re going to struggle to actually live that out. They have a powerful ability to interact with the people around them when they can trust.
The 6/2 Role Model/Hermit Profile
By embracing the inherent qualities of leadership, wisdom, and introspection, individuals with this profile are empowered to navigate life's challenges with grace and authenticity. Through a process of introspection and self-discovery, they uncover their true potential and emerge as beacons of inspiration and guidance for others. They have to learn to embody and integrate the knowledge and the wisdom and the observations, and they have to really honor the divine timing of life.

Projector Empowerment – Discover & Start LIVING Your Badass, Genius & Beautiful True Self!
Spend enough time around a 6/2 and you’ll find yourself asking “wait…where did you learn that? Sometimes, the weight of being the “wise one” in a relationship can be overwhelming. There might be expectations, both self-imposed and from the partner, to always have the answers, to always know the way forward. Instead, stay engaged with life, doing what you love, and opportunities will naturally come your way.
Role Model/Hermit stepping into the light or not?
The accumulated wisdom and experience now position them to guide, mentor, and lead. Their career choices during this phase often reflect this guiding light role. This was also the perfect time to experiment with career paths, majors, relationships, etc. The third phase, post age 50, sees the individual emerging as a role model.
Human Design Living Your Design Course – Self Empowerment Course
When we come to any sixth line profile, we have to remember that the sixth line exists in three phases. Phase one is birth to roughly 30 years, and they live life more like a third line. They’re going to bump into things and life’s going to bump into them. The lessons you learn from these early life experiences form the foundation for the wisdom you’ll carry into your later stages of life.
This is a time of introspection, reflection, and withdrawal from the tumult of life. This phase is essential for processing the lessons and experiences you’ve gathered so far. In the intimate sphere of personal relationships, individuals embodying the 6/2 Profile shine as mentors and guides. Their innate charisma and wisdom make them natural leaders within their social circles, drawing others to them like moths to a flame. Whether it's providing counsel during times of uncertainty or offering a supportive shoulder to lean on, 6/2 individuals excel at fostering deep connections and nurturing meaningful relationships. In essence, the 6/2 Profile represents a harmonious synthesis of leadership and introspection, embodying the ideals of authenticity, integrity, and spiritual wisdom.
Profiles that offer grounding energy, like the 4/6 or 1/3, can be a good match as they provide stability. The 4/6, with its foundational energy, can offer the 6/2 the grounding they sometimes need, especially during their explorative phases. It’s essential to understand that as a Generator, you’re not designed to chase after opportunities.
As I touched upon above, there are three different phases in life for the sixth line. Fairly consistent themes throughout the life of a 6/2, however, are curiosity and reflection. Next to your aura type, the profile lines in Human Design offer great insight into your personality.
With your innate talent from your second line, combined with the wisdom gained from your life experiences, you become an embodiment of wisdom for others. Your Manifestor energy to initiate and create change also finds its mature expression, as you use your influence and impact to guide and help others. Ultimately, the 6/2 Profile represents a call to embody the highest ideals of humanity – to lead with integrity, wisdom, and authenticity. At the same time, individuals with the Role Model-Hermit profile possess a natural ability to inspire and guide others towards their own self-discovery. They have a magnetic presence that draws people towards them, and their words and actions carry a profound impact. This profile reminds us of the power of personal transformation and the ripple effect it can have on the world around us.
During the later stages of life, the Projector focuses on and becomes an authority in their chosen field/s. Yet, though it leads to intense despondency for young 6/2 Projector profiles who must always see the more energetic Manifestors, Generators, and MG’s come out on top – it’s a blessing in disguise. Alongside their internal response, the second line of the Hermit should help a Generator to uncover where their gifts and talents lie, further guiding them towards correct decisions.
As they move into the last phase, their vast experience combined with their innate leadership qualities positions them well for senior leadership roles. As CEOs, CTOs, or Managing Directors, their approach is often characterized by wisdom, patience, and a keen understanding of both business and people. The role model phase for an artist with a 6/2 profile is truly captivating.
They may struggle with finding a balance between their need for solitude and their relationships. In the first phase, they are explorers, learning about the world through trial and error. This phase is characterized by a sense of restlessness and a desire to understand the world in a deeper sense. The life of a 6/2 Profile individual is marked by significant transitions, each leading them further into their understanding of themselves and the world around them. The three phases of their life offer distinct learning experiences and opportunities for growth. The second phase, often referred to as the ‘roof phase’, is when the individual withdraws somewhat from the world.
For the line 6 to be successful after the age 30, they have to come back out from their isolation at some point and into the world. 6/2 is a transpersonal profile, which means that you have the ability to influence strangers. You are here to take the work for the personal profiles and bring it out into the world. Once you step into the line six you enter the second phase, which happens after your Saturn Return around the age 30, it gets better, but the melancholy does stay to an extent.

In conclusion, relationships with a 6/2 profile individual offer a beautiful journey of mutual growth, understanding, and depth. With understanding and communication, it can be a journey marked by harmony, love, and profound connection. The 6/2’s partner needs to be supportive of their journey, understanding that this personal growth is intrinsic to their nature. At the same time, the 6/2 individual needs to ensure that their personal journey doesn’t overshadow the journey of the relationship.
Guide to the 6/2 Human Design Profile – Role Model Hermit
They get their solitude, their time for introspection, and eventually, a platform to guide and inspire. At first glance, it might seem counterintuitive to suggest creative fields for a profile that eventually emerges as a role model. However, the hermit energy of the 2nd line makes many 6/2 profiles gravitate towards artistic endeavors that allow for solitude. Whatever your authority is, learning to trust and rely on it is a significant part of your journey as a 6/2 Manifestor. It enables you to make decisions and take actions that are true to your nature and serve your purpose in life.

The Manifestor’s desire for autonomy might be particularly strong during this phase. You may find yourself gravitating towards activities that allow you to operate independently and explore your interests without much interference.
It’s a journey that requires an understanding your true nature and accepting your energy dynamics. The ‘hermit’ aspect of your second line profile comes into play during this period. It’s a time for introspection, for delving deep into your natural talents, and refining your unique skills. It’s also a time when you might feel an increased need to recharge after your Manifestor energy bursts. Ultimately, the role model energy, when balanced with mutual respect and understanding, can be a source of strength in the relationship. It offers depth, guidance, and a unique perspective, making the relationship richer and more profound.

Within the workplace, 6/2 individuals are known for their ability to navigate challenges with grace and poise. Their strategic thinking allows them to anticipate obstacles and devise creative solutions, while their unwavering integrity ensures that decisions are made with the utmost ethical consideration. They lead by example, embodying the values of excellence and accountability that they seek to instil in others. The dynamic qualities of the 6/2 Profile extend seamlessly into both personal and professional domains, enriching relationships and driving success. However, there may be an unconscious tendency for the Role Model-Hermit to avoid committing fully to people or projects.
Trust is of utmost importance to the Role Model-Hermit, as is their need for alone time and solitude. They may feel a strong pull to find their soulmate, and this theme may recur throughout their life. Ultimately, the Role Model-Hermit has the capacity to live their truth and act as a role model for humanity.
Understanding the 6/2 Generator’s Energy Dynamics
Their ability to deeply delve into subjects, combined with a later life phase of imparting knowledge, aligns well with academic pursuits. Following this experimental phase, there’s a shift to a more observational stance, almost as if they are on the “rooftop”, reflecting upon their experiences and gathering wisdom. Careers during this phase may lean towards research, analysis, or roles that require a deeper understanding of patterns. For the 6/2 individual, it’s about recognizing their own worth and the unique perspective they bring to a relationship. It’s about cherishing their journey and sharing their insights, while also being open to growth and learning.
The 6/2 Profile in Personal and Professional Settings
So, even in this role model phase, ensure you allow yourself periods of rest and rejuvenation. This will enable you to continue your role effectively without draining yourself. I like to think of President Obama as a pragmatic optimist, and that’s how 6/2s operate when they’re in a healthy state. They see the best in people, in situations, in themselves, without ignoring the obstacles or challenges or incongruities. They are natural born leaders who want to shape the world around them in that image, but they learn pretty quickly that not everyone walks through the world with that same vision or goal.
The Human Design 6/2 profile, also known as the Role Model-Hermit, is a unique combination of energies that brings together the qualities of a leader and a seeker. Individuals with this profile have a deep desire to understand themselves and the world around them, while also possessing the ability to inspire and guide others. This profile holds a special significance in the realm of human design, as it offers a powerful blend of introspection and influence.
It is during your Chiron Return i.e. around the age 50 that when you come off the roof and now the sixth line is ready to become the role model with true wisdom. You are the role model, and when people see you as a role model, it inspires them to become that role model themselves. During the second phase, you start realizing what it takes to be a role model, but you’re not there yet. You start seeing people for who they are and the world for what it is, but this is without judgement – from a very objective lens. You feel isolated from the world because you are not in the “materialness” of it all – you are somewhat removed. This is the sage that is meditating in a cave, fully aware of the battle going on outside, but not caring to become a part of it.
Cauley is a local artist here in Phoenix and her show “A’int Nobody Prayin’ For Me” is hanging right now at monOrchid on Roosevelt Row in the Phoenix Arts District. Above all, remember that as a 6/2 Generator, your ultimate goal is satisfaction. Living according to your design, listening to your Sacral response, and balancing your Role Model and Hermit aspects will help you achieve this. When an opportunity presents itself, check in with your Sacral Center. If you feel a sense of resonance or a ‘yes’ response, then it’s correct for you to pursue that opportunity. If not, it’s best to wait for something that aligns better with your design.
The second line of the 6/2 profile embodies the Hermit archetype—an individual who often seeks solitude and values independence. This inclination can lead to deep introspection and self-reflection, nurturing a profound sense of self-awareness. Embracing this side of the profile allows one to explore their own inner world, forging a strong foundation for personal growth and authenticity. When delving into the intricacies of the 6/2 profile in Human Design, we uncover a fascinating world of self-discovery and personal growth. Known as the Role Model Hermit, this profile carries a meaningful message that challenges us to become who we truly dream of being.

What's particularly notable about this week's cruise extensions is that they are taking place for ships operating out of multiple Florida ports on both sides of the state — a result of Hurricane Ian's large size and Florida-crossing track. In a statement posted online, Royal Caribbean said it expected Mariner of the Seas to be back in Port Canaveral on Friday, a day later than scheduled. All three of the ports are expected to remain closed through at least Friday morning. All three of the ships had been due back at Port Canaveral on Thursday morning but will now stay at sea until Friday morning if not longer.

The final mad scramble to evacuate the listing liner and then the extraordinary generosity of Giglio islanders who offered shoes, sweatshirts and shelter until the sun rose and passengers were ferried to the mainland. The Viking Polaris’ next departure, the Antarctic Explorer cruise scheduled for Dec. 5-17, was canceled due to the incident. Suzie Gooding, who was on the ship when the incident happened, recalled feeling like they'd hit an iceberg, according to NBC affiliate WRAL of Raleigh, North Carolina. Passengers scheduled for those late-March cruises are being offered full refunds and credit that can be used for a future cruise, it said.

Norwegian Encore is currently on a 21-day Panama Canal cruise from Seattle to Miami. According to CLIA, cruise lines have maintained an exceptional safety record and cruising is one of the safest forms of travel. "Even one incident is one too many," CLIA told Business Insider, explaining, "The vast majority of cases are either reckless behavior or some form of intentional act. People don't just inadvertently fall over the side of a ship." California resident Kenneth Schwalbe, 59, was traveling on the Emerald Princess ship when he went overboard on August 11 about eight miles off the coast of Hilo, Hawaii. The Coast Guard called off its search for Hill when he wasn't found after covering more than 1,347 square miles.

MIAMI — Two crew members died on board a Holland America cruise ship, and a fire broke out on a Carnival ship while both of the ships were in the Bahamas this weekend, officials said. Norwegian Cruise ship hits iceberg in Alaska; rest of trip canceled: reports
The extended sailings are just the latest in a string of disruptions to cruises this week caused by Hurricane Ian. More than a dozen cruise ships operating in the Caribbean and the Bahamas have had to switch course in recent days to steer clear of the storm as it barreled toward Florida. In many cases, the ships dropped or switched ports as they moved to calmer waters. Researchers at Bowling Green State University found between 2000 and 2019, there were 623 reported deaths on cruise ships, and 89% of those deaths were passengers while 11% of those were crew members. The 981-foot cruise ship, which has 20 passenger decks above the waterline and a large sail area, arrived in the Belgian port as its last port call on a 10-day cruise from Iceland through Scandinavia and ending in England. When she docked Saturday morning, wind speeds were being reported at between 6 and 18 knots.

"We have dispatched our CARE Team to Panama City to offer additional support to these guests," the spokesperson said. HONOLULU — One person died and multiple people were injured when a shuttle bus collided with pedestrians and concrete barriers at a Honolulu cruise ship terminal, authorities said Friday. A Carnival spokesperson said that the cruise line determined Hill "jumped" from the ship "after an exhaustive on-board search and a review of security camera video." The voyages that are being extended include this week's four-night sailings of Carnival Cruise Line's 2,052-passenger Carnival Paradise and 2,052-passenger Carnival Elation out of Port Tampa Bay and JAXPort, respectively. Both of the sailings, which began on Sunday and had been scheduled to end Thursday morning, are now morphing into cruises that will last at least five nights.
The line told passengers on the current sailing that the vessel might not return to Port Canaveral early Friday as scheduled and could remain at sea into the weekend. The Ruby Princess cruise ship that was damaged after it crashed into a pier in San Francisco is expected to set sail on Sunday afternoon after it was cleared for departure. During the pandemic, four crew members were killed by non-coronavirus causes on cruise ships with workers stranded onboard. For Concordia survivor Georgia Ananias, the COVID-19 infections are just the latest evidence that passenger safety still isn’t a top priority for the cruise ship industry. Passengers aboard the Concordia were largely left on their own to find life jackets and a functioning lifeboat after the captain steered the ship close too shore in a stunt. He then delayed an evacuation order until it was too late, with lifeboats unable to lower because the ship was listing too heavily.

Also being extended are sailings out of Port Canaveral operated by Royal Caribbean's 3,344-passenger Mariner of the Seas, Norwegian Cruise Line's 3,967-passenger Norwegian Getaway and MSC Cruises' 3,502-passenger MSC Divina. "All of us at Holland America Line are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with our team members' families at this difficult time," the statement said. "Our team are working to arrange onward travel back home for guests onboard," the statement added. “Following ongoing safety checks and technical assessments, given the weather conditions, we decided to amend the planned sailing route.

One passenger was with six of her relatives for a family vacation that was postponed three years due to the COVID pandemic. A Norwegian Cruise Line ship on the way to an Alaskan glacier hit an iceberg over the weekend and is being turned around due to damage. Ross Klein, a cruise industry expert and a professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada, said that this kind of incident is uncommon. "It's not unheard of, but it certainly isn't something that happens with any frequency at all," he said. From 2009 to 2019, the number of "operational incidents" declined by 41% and the rate of "man overboard incidents" declined by nearly 35%, while the industry's total capacity grew by 68%, CLIA said.
The disruptions come as one of the busier cruise ports in the region that often serves as an alternate stop for cruise ships avoiding hurricanes, Grand Turk, remains closed for now due to damage from Hurricane Fiona. As is customary when cruises need to be extended due to inclement weather, none of the passengers on board the vessels will be charged for the extra days they spend on the ships. More common, Klein said, is for passengers to fall over the side of the gangway, though he noted that does not happen often, either. "From a passenger perspective, one should always be using caution no matter where they are on a cruise ship or off," Klein said. A passenger on an MSC Cruises ship was rescued in 2009 after falling into the water following a gangway collapse, and more than a dozen people were killed in a similar incident on a gangway leading to Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2 in 2003. According to a report from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), there were 212 overboard incidents from 2009 to 2019, and only 48 — or 28.2% — of those who fell overboard were successfully rescued. College student Sigmund Ropich of Texas was vacationing with his friends on Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world in August, his sister Savannah Ropich told Business Insider. One witness told Business Insider that passengers lined up on their balconies and quickly banded together to try and guide the rescue boat as it scanned the water for signs of the woman.

The sad anniversary comes as the cruise industry, shut down in much of the world for months because of the coronavirus pandemic, is once again in the spotlight because of COVID-19 outbreaks that threaten passenger safety. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control last month warned people across-the-board not to go on cruises, regardless of their vaccination status, because of the risks of infection. Fire on the port-side exhaust funnel of another Florida-based cruise ship in the Bahamas, the Carnival Freedom, rocked some passengers Saturday and took the ship out of commission for repairs, the cruise line said. The passenger — who was showing signs of hypothermia, shock and dehydration — told rescuers he wasn’t sure how he’d fallen overboard but confirmed he’d been on the cruise ship.
The Coast Guard searched over 5,171 square miles and more than 60 hours, but crews could not find Peale Jr. The family of 35-year-old Australian cruise passenger Warwick Tollemache told Nine News he was a "kind, beautiful, and gentle soul who was adored by everyone who knew him." But at least 10 people fell off major cruise line ships so far this year, turning fun-in-the-sun vacations into disaster situations — and only two survived the fall into the ocean.
By midday port officials were raising a yellow caution flag reporting gusts over 40 knots. The cruise line said a technical team determined the ship sustained enough damage that it will need repairs before it can be returned to scheduled cruises. The funnel was stabilized, passengers were expected to be returned to Port Canaveral, and the ship will set off to Freeport for repairs, it said. One person died and four others were injured after a "rogue wave" hit the Viking Polaris cruise ship while it was sailing toward Ushuaia, Argentina, on Tuesday night, officials said. "The ship and crew immediately reported the incident to local authorities and began searching for the guest. Thankfully, the guest was successfully recovered and was brought on board," the cruise line told Business Insider.
The Carnival Magic, which departed from Florida on Sunday, was docked in Ocho Rios in Jamaica when high winds caused the pier fender to collapse, hitting the ship’s side. A Japanese consortium made up of coastal shipping company Imoto Lines and marine software company Marindows is launching a government-backed effort to develop a next-generation containership. The crew made the experience even more memorable by serving Rüdesheimer coffee (more on this adult beverage later) and an elaborate barbeque lunch on the sun deck. I enjoyed sampling local wines and viewing the terraced vineyards, but one of my favorite experiences was exploring Rüdesheim after dark. We strolled around the Old Town and down Drosselgasse, a narrow cobblestone street lined with restaurants, wine bars, taverns, and boutiques. Our group listened to live music and visited the Rüdesheimer Schloss for authentic Rüdesheimer coffee, a potent beverage made with local Asbach brandy and sugar and topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. I was impressed with the consistently high quality of our meals and the personalized, attentive service on the AmaLucia. AmaLucia’s dining areas include the Main Restaurant, the panoramic Al Fresco Terrace, and the elegant Chef’s Table complimentary dining venue.

Toward the end of my trip, I sat on a stoop enjoying a mango gelato after a long walking tour of Riquewihr, a fairy-tale medieval French town. I had sweated my way down the Rhine for the past week, but it was exactly the kind of vacation I needed. For someone like me, whose mind is constantly racing with worries, staying active allowed me to be more present and connected—even when I was being shown up by people twice my age. Those moments in a new destination, when the responsibilities dissipate, make travel—and the sweat—so rewarding.
Day 13
Other times, the river’s water levels may be too low to sail because there is insufficient water beneath the boat and the riverbed. The best thing to do is extend your river cruise for time on land with a pre or post-cruise extension. Dan and I did this, and it’s when we really immersed ourselves in French cuisine. While 180M tourists in France are French people discovering their own culture (because the different areas of France vastly vary from one another), most of the fellow cruisers onboard AmaKristina were American and British.

The change included more logistics and coordination than most guests probably realized. As such, the guests boarded buses to reach the boat from Tournon after our morning tours; the ship was further along the Rhone River after our excursions than where we disembarked that morning. As soon as the guests disembarked AmaKristina in Tournon, the ship sailed away to make it to the next location. This smart move was the captain’s solution to deal with the strike and stay on course for our Colors of Provence itinerary.
Day 10
One of the newest ships in the company’s fleet, it offers two dining options (a main restaurant and the dinner-only Chef’s Table, which seats 32 guests), a spa, a walking track, and complimentary beer and wine. This well-preserved city is set along the scenic Neckar River and is home to Germany’s oldest and most renowned university. We started by taking a guided visit through the ancient ruins of Heidelberg Castle, a royal Renaissance palace built with stunning red sandstone. The world-famous fortress towers above the Neckar Valley and its cellars contain the Heidelberg Tun, the world’s largest wine barrel.

Nuclear power is the primary way most of the towns in Provence get power. The third largest wine region of the 14 in France is the Rhône area, which has 175K acres of vineyards. In addition, as we explain in more depth below, be sure to go on the Paul Bocuse Les Halles Market Food Tour in Lyon if you’re an epicurean or even the slightest bit interested in French food and drinks. It’s an included tour option on the AmaWaterways Colors of Provence cruise. There is a nice variety of cruise excursions you can choose from that focus on French food and wine. Onboard, you’ll find French wine and some French-inspired food options here and there.
Another unexpected Rhone River challenge had nothing to do with water levels; it had to do with the locks being affected by a strike! During the cruise, the captain smartly adjusted our day's schedule in Tournon to avoid the lock workers' strike. Baguettes are less than €1 per piece at any market or supermarket you visit in France. Our favorite grocery shop in France is Carrefour; most any sizable French city has one. The next afternoon, we enjoyed a beautiful sail through the Rhone River valley after our morning in Vienne.

The cities we visited during this tour and AmaWaterways's service — especially in guided tours and their ability to pivot during a strike — were standouts. In a year that happened to have taken us to the South of France multiple times, this was a phenomenal conclusion to our three cruise vacations in a charming country. That’s why we had to get this herb blend during our Colors of Provence river cruise! Finding Herbs de Provence blend in most of the towns we visited was easy.
During previous trips in recent years, we were affected by a Lufthansa airline strike before our barge cruise with European Waterways and again for our Bordeaux summer river cruise with Viking. But for a truly French experience in the culinary sense, we recommend booking some restaurant experiences on your own in addition to the excursions offered. You will not feel immersed in French cuisine when you sail on this cruise, like during a land trip to Provence.
While AmaWaterways offers some cheese onboard, we found it wasn’t as authentic as the cheese you can get on land. Our Colors of Provence cruise with AmaWaterways was a vacation for the books! Many itineraries travel between Amsterdam and Basel in Switzerland, and some incorporate other rivers as well. Standing on AmaLucia’s sun deck, I was mesmerized by the awe-inspiring scenery complete with picturesque towns, hillside vineyards, and 30 stunning castles and fortresses lining the river. Our knowledgeable cruise manager provided expert commentary on the Upper Middle Rhine Valley’s castles, the area’s stories and legends, the massive Loreley Rock, and the iconic statue that bears the siren’s name.
